Day 2

Once again I was awake in the night, this time at 2am and ern was awake too! So we made a cup of tea and caught up with twitter and read til about 4 when we started to feel a bit sleepy. So remembering that had the 1st Ladies Detective Agency on my phone we turned the light off and settled down to listen. Eventually we did doze off and slept on and off til about 9.
Once we'd showered and dressed we set off for the MRT (the local underground) which was beautifully clean and air conditioned and on time! We ended up in Marina Bay, opposite the financial centre. The sun was shining and it was incredibly hot, I've never sweated so much in my life, so we had to keep stopping in the shade for a rest as we walked up into the old quarter, stopping at the spot where Raffles landed, Parliament House, Singapore Cricket Club, the Civilian War Memorial Park, St Andrews Cathedral and finally Raffles Hotel itself. On our walk we managed to find one of only two Costa Coffee shops on the island and treated ourselves to a nice cooling drink.
On our return to the apartment we treated ourselves to a shower and ate chicken and rice. Then after a while we went out to a local ice cream parlour where we had waffles and ice cream, creme brûlée for ern and I mashed up with toppings of our choice. After a long chat we went back home where we're listening to TMS and trying to make ourselves sleepy. Here's hoping!!

Day 1

After setting off to bed about 10.30, I found myself awake at 2.45 unable to get back to sleep, so I caught up on twitter and then read til about 5 when I settled back down to try and get some more sleep, which luckily I did. Unfortunately the nxt thing I knew was ern asking me if I knew what the time was and when I looked we discovered it was 12.10pm!
We had a quick shower and tea and toast and headed out to Changi Museum. This tells the history of Singapore during the Second World War and was very interesting. We hired headphones an a machine that guided you round. It was a very enjoyable two hours, finished off with fruit and ice cream pancakes and a strawberry soda for me and cup of tea for ern.
Then for tea we headed out to a local Thai cafe with erns sister and brother in law where we shared a lovely meal, including pad Thai, chicken and cashew nuts, prawn cakes, sweet and sour fish and rice. It really was very enjoyable.
Now it's nearly bed time and tonight we will be setting an alarm to make sure we wake up!!

Thunderstorm!

Just a quick post. Lying in bed at 5am, listening to the most almighty thunderstorm! Do I need to pull the tv aeriel out Mabel?!

Gladys and Ern travel to Singapore!

Yesterday we set off for Singapore, today we finally arrived! First flight was good, we drank plenty, had a wander watched a couple of films and ate plenty! After a short stop in Dubai we set off on the second stint which wasn't very good. Service and food was fine, flight itself was terrible. After being told we were in for a smooth flight, the turbulence was terrible. Four times the cabin crew had sit down, it was that bad! But never mind we survived and landed on time.
Lynn and Raelton were there too meet us and after a short trip we arrived back at their apartment, where the first thing we did was have a shower. After a cold drink and a chat we headed out to Fish & Co for a nice meal. Ern had Bombay fish and chips and I had Swiss fish and chips. Back home now and I'm trying to persuade myself it's nearly bedtime and I must go to sleep"
